My first food photography shoot

Feta and Leek Tart - Food Photography

You might already know that I like to explore many types of photography - I enjoy doing portraits, take sports and action photography, landscapes and product photography. But there was a category that I hadn't done until last weekend - food photography.

Background

So you might wonder "why food photography, Konrad?" First of all, although my wife has an extremely busy schedule, she still enjoys cooking and she spends most of her weekends on coming up with next week's menu and cooking. It takes her so much time each weekend that I thought it would be great to document her cuisine.

Secondly, I was indirectly (and unconsciously) introduced to food photography by Stephanie Mullins (click here). Stephanie is a food photographer based in Tennessee. I had a great pleasure to work with her for a few months on non-food related photography projects. She was always sharing her new projects and food photographs so I developed an interest to try take food photos.

The Set & Styling

The set for these 2 food photos you see here is actually very simple but I'll publish a separate article with details soon. I used only natural light and I shot it in my garage. Styling took also a quite a lot of time, especially because I was constantly tweaking and improving the set, thanks to my wife's ideas. She kept coming to me with new props and concepts - I think she was more excited about these photos than I was (well, after all it was the food she prepared).

Stay tuned for more details on these shoot.
